Friends don't let friends approve Matt Gaetz for Attorney General
A request to folks in red states
Hello all,
I’d like to speak to all the folks who have Republican senators representing their state today if that’s all right.
See, last week the President-elect announced that he wanted a man named Matt Gaetz to be Attorney General. That’s the chief law enforcement officer of the federal government. Kind of a big deal.
Here’s the thing about Gaetz, he is facing an investigation from the U.S. House of Representatives, where he serves, for crimes including sexual misconduct. Now if you’re thinking that the chief law enforcement officer of the federal government probably shouldn’t be a person with a background like that, I agree with you.
Gaetz is a 42-year-old rich boy who is widely disliked by his colleagues in the House of Representatives In fact, he seems to be using this nomination to avoid having a big report come out that would lay out the results of the investigation.
That’s the bad news.
Here’s the good news. He still needs to get Senate approval and that looks shaky. The problem is, Republican senators will have to stand up to the President-elect, and they are scared to do so because they don’t want to get on his bad side and lose their jobs.
So here’s what you can do:
Call or email your Senator and tell them that you don’t want Matt Gaetz as attorney general. Here’s a link to their contact information: https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm
I’m not asking you to speak up against every cabinet appointment. I’m just asking you to make sure that rich and powerful people like Gaetz face the same kind of justice that you or I would face.
Fair enough?
